Paying off my $12,000 of Credit Card Debt

As you can see i'm a newbie to all of this couponing and blogging, and there is a reason why I started. The end of 2008 and pretty much all of 2009 was not so great for me. Moving back to FL and not having a job for a while was hard. I had to use all of my cash income on paying rent, so all other purchases were made on Credit Cards.

This adds up,and I will admit I wasn't frugal at all. I would go to the grocery store with no list or coupons and buy whatever I wanted even if it wasn't on sale(GASP). I didn't even make an attempt to watch my spending, i still went out to eat with friends, and spent money I didn't have. On top of this both myself and my boyfriend(or hubby as I sometimes call him, we've been together for almost 6 years) were having car issues. When we had just settled in to our new jobs, both of our cars needed pricey repairs. Our cars are necessary for us to get to and from work so paying for these repairs on our Credit Cards was automatic.

Now I've got all this yucky debt to deal with, and 2010 is my year to get rid of it. With the help of many amazing blogs (most of which you can find on my favorite blog list) I will slash my spending and keep to a budget. This will allow me to put extra money towards the credit card payments, starting with the card that has the highest limit. I added a list you can view on the left that will allow you to see my savings for the new year and of course I will be posting my shopping trips. In addition I will be adding a tracker of my debt amount as it is paid off.

Like many of you, 2010 is the year for change, on top of all this savings and debt paying I'm also heading back to school. I start on the 11th and i couldnt be happier!

Follow me on my journey to getting debt free and if you have any suggestions on ways to save I would love to here them.

  1. Jen,

I am amazed that you are humble enough to share your story with the world. Unfortunately your story is very common amongst the average american and I am right there with you. My husband and I are working on doing the same thing however we have two chidren which changes the scenario slightly. One of the largest ways we are going to save in 2010 is by starting a garden, raising our own chickens, pigs and cows.

Thank you for posting your awesome deals!

  3. I know how you feel. I lived off of my credit cards for such a long time. We still have debit and unfortunately, I still use mine. I need to quit! Maybe we can support each other! Have you signed up for Kraft First Taste?
