First Garage Sale Trip Tomorrow!

I'm excited and nervous, I'm making MY FIRST EVER Garage Sale Trip tomorrow morning.  I just found out that a community up the road is having a garage sale with about 20 homes participating.  I've got a list of things to look for and I'm dragging the BF along with me to help. Let's hope I find some good deals, and if you have any tips please pass them along.  I'll post tomorrow if I found anything!  Yay!

  1. You will have SUCH a blast! I love garage sales!

    My tips:

Remember to take low-denomination bills (ones and fives) because sometimes sellers won't have change for larger bills.

Always haggle - it is part of the fun! I typically offer half of the asking price and see what they say. Usually they meet in the middle. If they won't budge on the price, but you still want it at the original price, get it anyway! It never hurts to ask. :)

Also, if you are buying several items, offer a "lot" price. People want to get rid of things, so if they think you will cart off a bunch of stuff, they will usually let it all go for a really good deal.

Take a bag to put little stuff in, it makes it easy to carry stuff from one sale to another without having to trek back to your car after each house while juggling the all goodies you just scored.

Take newspaper, towels, bubblewrap - whatever you have on hand that is good cushioning for breakables. It stinks to buy a pretty vase and then have it break in the backseat on the way home.

Take tie-down straps or twine for big purchases that don't fit easily into your trunk or truck bed. Better safe than sorry!

Wear comfy shoes and layers that you can take off, chilly morning turn into muggy heat super fast!

As you get closer to the end of the garage sale hours, you will have more haggling power. No one wants to cart their unsold stuff back inside!

Most of all - have a super dooper time! I wish I could go with you! :) I hope you find some awesome stuff; I can't wait to see your garage sale goodies!

  2. Multiple family garage sales are so much fun! When we lived in Memphis, there was a huge neighborhood-wide sale in a *really nice* part of town- there would be so many people there, they had to block off the streets! Hot dog and popcorn vendors would show up, and the stuff for sale was usually in really good condition. So much fun! Good luck!
